Build Rapport- Utilise Rapport

One of the most important things you can do to de-escalate conflict, and turn it around into a growth environment is to gain rapport.

Most of us judge others we meet in under 1/10 second and in that time we decide (sometimes wrongly) how likeable, competent, trustworthy or aggressive that person is.

Gaining rapport involves creating a good first impression so others are more open to conversation. Then using good verbal and non-verbal skills you can show that you are genuinely interested in them and able to listen to them, finding common areas of agreement or common ground.

As you gain this rapport, you can utilise it as you address more difficult or tricky areas- carrying on listening to their point of view, but clearly stating your own view.
