Conflict can be productive, and in many situations, it helps people understand each other better and come up with creative solutions.
But this book talks about 'High Conflict', where people become so sure of their righteousness, and the wrongness of the other party, that they will do whatever it takes to gain complete victory.
This creates a trap that pulls in more and more people.
There is, however, a way out. Amanda Ripley looks at many high conflict situations, including gang warfare in Chicago, GM crop activists in Oxford and couples looking to settle divorces and suggests a 5 step model for getting out of these conflicts.
